- : Check out Chase Research's IOXTA I/O card that uses the 16650. You
- : can find them at www.chaser.com. You can purchase the card from
- : www.sparco.com.
- :
- : From what I can remember, the 16650 has a 32 byte buffer versus the 16
- : byte buffer in the 16550. The 32 byte buffer allows DTE's upto 430K.
- : However, as the Sportster will unlikely ever go above 115K DTE (even
- : with 33.6 speeds due to never reaching 4:1 compression with V.42bis),
- : I don't think you'll need that card. BTW, I also don't think that the
- : Sportster's support DTE's >115K (could be wrong though).

- The limitation of V.42bis is *not* 4/1. That's been shown several times.
- The limitation is the highest spported DTE rate by the modem. USR's only
- support a maximum of 115200 at this point in time. Force a connection at
- 14400 with the port speed locked to 115200 and transfer a highly
- compressible file. That will give you a better idea of the compression
- capabilities of V.42bis.
